A course focused on the ever-changing landscape of technology and how society reacts to it (and ultimately regulate it) seemed only natural to integrate into my schedule. Confronted with ideas of how volatile technology can be, with regulations often an afterthought, this course was meant to open our eyes to how easily things can be impacted with regulations on a variety of scales.
As part of this coursework, we were tasked with creating a snapshot of how society/government attempts to regulate an important piece of technology essential to contemporary society’s communication. Something that has always piqued my interest was the internet, especially with the controversial topic of net neutrality, and how governments can restrict the use of the internet and how people communicate through the World Wide Web. Linked below is a blog that hones in on this idea, and how the elimination of the limitations and security measure put in place by the government would change the landscape of the internet.
